To All the Pants-ers

Evan and I watched Stranger Than Fiction last night--loved it. Emma Watson is great.

She had a line in the movie that sent me uprooting kittens and scrambling for the nearest post-it so that I could share it with you, my fellow writers, and you, my fellow pants-ers:

"Like anything worth writing, it came inexplicably and without method."

Not to bash on the outlined organizers, of course. But this spoke to me with a bullhorn, and I just had to share.

Love the new blog layout.

And that line hit me as well. I absolutely hate Will Ferrell, but I own that movie. It's wonderful.

I have not seen the movie for the same reason as Amie but I LOVE the quote. Thanks for jotting it down and sharing. :)

I love Will Ferrell, I'll go ahead and say it. He was on SNL when I was in high school and I watched a lot of it :)

That movie is great, and the quote is purely AWESOME!!!

hey, i'm an outliner and that line makes total sense to me. Both the original idea and a lot of plot changes while i'm writing come inexplicably.

Man, you are like queen blog layout!
Also that is an awesome movie

Such a great movie. Uprooting kittens *laughing*
I was a pants-er turned half planner. But this is such a great quote. It speaks to the half panst-er and well the planner as well...to me as the writer I should say.
Love the layout!

That's an awesome quote! Makes me (slightly) proud to be a pantser. :)

Also, the layout is FABULOUS! I love orange so the leaves are scoring TRIPLE points for being various shades of that.

I love that line! I often feel that way. I confess, if I do outline it's usually after I've finished the story so I won't muck too much and ruin the dreaming part of writing.

love the line and totally agree with it!

I am a HUGE believer in planning. That said, my last first draft was not preplanned and it was the easiest one. I connected to well with the main character.

I love that quote! I like planning, but there are definitely some great moments of inexplicable and surprising writing that feel the "best", kwim?

I'm not a big Will Ferrell fan, but I loved that movie to pieces!!!! He, like Jim Carrey, needs to do more serious stuff....
