W-I-P Wednesday

Geez, here it is again! It's like it comes every week or something...

Saving Me
Word count: 56,020
Goal: in the ballpark of 75,000
Genre: women's commerical fiction

General Thoughts

 As you can see, I've added nearly 6k to my wordcount since last week. I'm pretty happy with that progress, but hope to be speeding it up even more. I have a deadline in sight and really want the first draft complete by July 15. What can I say? I love arbitrary goals.

I'm really battling the inner editor/shitty draft police right now, but so far I'm winning. Let's just say there's going to be a lot of work to do come revision time...

I'm reading Sue Monk Kidd's novel The Mermaid Chair. She's the author of The Secret Life of Bees and one of the better-known names in Southern women's fiction. I haven't read Bees, but Mermaid Chair isn't bad so far.

Also, I'm reorganizing my bookshelves to be in alphabetical order. Before I had it ordered by size. Is that weird? I'm a visual artist too, so I liked the symmetry. Alas, one of the shelves on my Target bookcase is sagging quite alarmingly, and the stupid manufacturers decided that it didn't need to be finished on the bottom, so I can't really flip it over. I'm hoping hubby will add a little support to it one of these days...just needs a few more gentle reminders.

I've acquired 2 new television shows: The Gates and Rookie Blue. Any others watching these? What do you think?

Yay!arbitrary goals! I love those. :) And I also love symmetry, too.

I haven't seen the tv shows, but I am looking forward to more reading and writing as goals. :)

Loved the post, I probably won't see the TV shows here in the UK.

Congrats on your progress with the WIP!

Have you read "Girls in Trucks" by Katie Crouch? She's a new southern writer in women's fiction and I just loved it. She's got such a distinctive contemporary voice.

And go you on the WIP!!!

GO Summer GO!
GO Summer GO!

I really try to resist picking up new TV shows during the summer because the re-run season is prime writing/revision time for me. :)

Go Summer! I have not seen The Gates or Rookie Blue. How are they?

@SJS: If I didn't have arbitrary goals, I would have anything. :-)

@Yvonne: Thanks!

@Aubrie: Thank you, it's coming along quite well now.

@Anne: I'm a'going, I'm a'going!

@DL: Yeah, summer is good writing time, but when you're a slouch like me and have nothing going on, some TV diversion is nice. :)

@Matt: Thanks!

@Christine: I'm trying. Mostly succeeding. :-)

Ha! I organize my bookshelves and dvd shelves by size as well!
I'm a big fan of symnetry too.

My target bookshelves sag as well. What pieces of crap, especially compared to my Ikea bookshelves which were half the cost and twice the size.
Ikea Win. Target Fail

No, no... your bookshelves should really be in size order. It's the only aesthetically pleasing way to do it. Please change them back. Kthxbai.

Goals are great! I too have a date in mind for finishing my latest WiP and I'm still steadily moving along and hope to reach the goal I've set... ambitious? Yes... but isn't that the only way?!

yay!!!! Excellent progress!! Good for you!!

I love that you are alphabetizing your books!! That's just brilliant! And so they should be. I hope your hubby takes the hint and help fix your bookshelves!

Take care

I put my books in alpha by author. My movies, alpha by title. Also all of my books are separated by genre.

I have just started watching the Gates, it's promising so far. Who knows what's going to happen? They should probably tell some secrets soon otherwise, people will lose interest. From my TV watching experience...

6000 words sounds good! :)

I've not heard of these shows and chances are I won't being in the UK.

Happy Wednesday!

Yeah, Wednesday was just here last week!

Reorganizing your bookshelves? I wouldn't know where to begin with mine...

I think you should read The Secret Life of Bees (eventually...). I thought it was 100x better than The Mermaid Chair.... just my two cents. ;)

And yay for shutting that inner editor down!!! "You over there.... yeah you with the ugly grin and beady eyes.... hush it." That's what I say to mine.

You are doing AWESOME!!! You are so close!! I love your goal too, why did you pick that day? Just cuz? Anyway, I think it's cool :)

Keep writing, girl! You'll be finished before you know it. I just started watching The Gates, too. I'm not sure what I think about it yet. But I think I like it. LOL. It's definitely different. :)

Love visual puzzles! I don't like stuff too matchy, but I love symmetry...bookshelves are great to feed that need....don't know the shows...

I haven't seen either of those shows yet, but I was planning to watch Rookie Blue and forgot about it! Wah! I'll have to check them both out.

And congrats on your progress so far! You're into the end now, it's just going to get easier! I also have am already starting to worry about revisions, but I refuse to think about them until I finish the first draft.

Well done on the 6k word boost :D

I tend to organise my book shelves by size (when they are actually organised, hehe). For me, it's so I'm able to stack more books above the gaps made by the smaller books, so having everything ordered by size means you get nice sized gaps for more book stuffing :D
