Day One

It wasn't my typical start to Nano, that's for sure. When the clock turned midnight, I was snuggled in bed, giggling with Evan at the episode of Scrubs that we were watching to unwind.

In the morning, I woke up and did a leisurely stroll through my awesomely successful blogfest entries. And thank you so much to everyone who participated! I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did!

Then, around 10:15, we left for the dentist! (dum dumm dummmm)

I'll go ahead and admit this: I've never had a filling before. My family didn't have dental insurance my whole life, so from age 6 onward, the only dentist appointment I ever had was when I had to have my wisdom teeth removed at age 17. I've always been a good brusher, a meh flosser, and had generally good teeth.

Anyway, we went to the dentist last week, now that we're covered, and oh man...they found 4 cavities. Unfortunately, they're between teeth, so actually eight teeth are affected. Lemme tell ya, that bummed me right out, even though they assured me that otherwise, my teeth were great.

So yesterday morning, I had my first set filled. Remember: never had a filling.
And honestly? Kinda a let-down. In a good way. I didn't even feel the novacain shot, and the drilling sensation/sound didn't bother me--probably all my experience in veterinary dental surgery. :) The only thing that sucked was holding my mouth open for so long. My jaw was getting pretty uncomfortable towards the end.

And then my face was all numb for the next 3 hours.

Feeling sorry for myself, I took a nap after lunch.

Still no words!

Around 3:30, I finally hauled myself to the computer and got to work.

As of 10pm, my first day's wordcount is 2,629. Then I took some Tylenol PM and watched 30 Rock until I was asleep. :)

I hate the aftermath of coming out of numbness. It's weird.

Thanks for making our word-o-matic! :)

I tried all night to get onto the nano site so I could update my word count (and see if it updates our widget), but I couldn't get on the site. *pouts*

After I write today I'll try again and if successful I'll put in whatever my total word count turns out to be.

I wouldn't be surprised if we find a dentist character in your current writing :)

My dentist is also my good friend, so I'm not at all afraid of visiting her, and I go to her office five or six times a year :)

Ouch. Dentists. Ouch! But well done for writing your nano words under such pain too!! Take care now and put those sweets away now! :-) But the chocolate can stay!

Take care and well done you!

fillings are something that are really painful as a child, but not a big deal at all as an adult.

Yeah i didn't start until 5 pm. Then i got in 17k and decided to stop there. It takes me a few days to warm up

Wow, good start to NaNoWriMo! Good job cramming those words in and taking care of business at the end of a full day.

I guess your dental history is sort of a metaphor for that. Haha. It worked out!

Wow good job! Sorry about the cavities but really, all the hype about how awful fillings are wasn't at all lived up to, was it? I have only ever had one so far and it was easy-peasy!

Sorry about the dentist visit, Summer, but it sounds as though you took it in stride. I have had many fillings, and let me tell you, you haven't lived until you've experienced root canal. Now there's a good time. (winces, whimpers) Good luck on NanNo, and thanks for the awesome blogfest yesterday.

Nice wordcount! Even for such a hectic day. :-)

I've had many fillings and 4 root canals. *sigh* this is what comes of not taking better care of my teeth when I was little.

Through a series of unfortunate events, I didn't get started on my NaNo until late in the day either.

Keep up the good work, I'll be rooting for you! :-)

Dentist on day one of nano... and you got your words in? Wow! Good on you!

Your mug pics on your previous post made me get up and make coffee. Ah, the power of suggestion!

Good job getting words in on the same day as that dentist appointment. I haven't been to the dentist in about 2 years (due to moving around a lot... it's hard to hold on to doctors), and although I'm an excellent brusher, I'm totally dreading going. So I think you're brave. ;)

Very impressive. After my last dentist visit I decided to take a nine hour nap(Got a bit loopy from the numbing shot. I am a bit of a light weight lmao). I didn't fair quite as well as most yesterday. Still trying all the same :)

For some reason, I really enjoy going to the dentist, though I try to make sure the visits are few and far between :P

Wow, well done on blowing Day 1's word count outta the water despite doing so much in the day! I need to take some tips :P
