Yesterday was my inaugural visit to the gym with my shiny new membership. I'd had a meeting with a trainer last week, who showed me how to use all the fancy equipment and gave me a workout plan.
I was there for about an hour, at peak time (11am) with the elderly folk.
While I was secretly racing on the elliptical with the man next to me (I tots won, by the way), I was trying over and over to concentrate on my novel. What happens next? Where am I going? I know my destination, but how am I going to get there?
But my tunes were so sweet, I kept losing focus on my novel, and once I was done with my cardio and moved on to the weights, I pretty much forgot everything but the screaming pain in my girly muscles. Heck, even the 78-year-old lady before me was using like twice as much weight as I (but she was also grimacing really badly).
Anyway, I came home and showered, then I played video games with my brother for like, three hours. And then we got Chinese takeout for dinner. And then we had a friend come over (shock, I know--we do have friends) and play more video games...
And then around 11pm, my husband decided he wanted to watch the latest subbed Bleach episode. So I pulled up my Word document. And I looked at my scene.
And friends, hell if I didn't write like 550 words in 20 minutes and figure out what my bold next move is. I'd had this idea floating around forever, but I couldn't figure out a way to get my MC to it...and last night, it all fell into place.
Yay.
So today, after my PT and quick Walmart run, I will be chained to my computer. For reals.

I'm glad you're back on the horse. I, for one, would need a lazier way than exercise to get myself motivated :-)
I always find a good round of physical exertion is good for getting out of the weeds. I cleaned the house all weekend and that helped tremendously.
Just to quell the rumors, I am not now and never have been a cat. Especially not a cat that tweets.
*cough* *HACK*
Sorry. Hairball.
Where was I...?
:)
I used to enjoy hitting the gym (once I forced myself to make the effort to leave the house, hehe) since I'd put on my 'fantasy metal' playlist, zone out during my workout and come up with ideas. Of course, by the time I'd finish the work out I'd be so focused on my muscles screaming for freedom that I'd forget all of them :P
Sometimes if you take time away like that, the ideas come rushing in! Sounds like you had a great day!
Suh-weeet! Congrats on the breakthrough!
(oh the places I could go with the pussy (cat) and Simon reference...but I shall refrain...;)
And they say video games are bad for you. SCOFF!!!! :)
Pleased things are back to normal for you. Good luck with your
Yvonne,

YAY!!!! Good for you :)
And, oh how I love the screaming muscle pain of weight lifting. Yet my girly muscles remain, girly.
Every time I see your lol cats I think of the Big Bang Theory, when Sheldon gives Penny three strikes for sending him a lol cat email. Heeee!
Woohoo we must have been on the same level last night because I too had chinese take-out, played video games and finally got to work on my novel! Feels great to get some stuff done!
What wonderful kitty pictures... I LOVE THEM!!
awesome!
Also, i'm totes jealous of your ability to work out, play vidya games AND get writing done in one day. JEALOUS!
MOST importantly, though, is what video did you play?
sigh. "video GAMES" is what i meant to write...
Love it! So happy for you! It is always good to sit down and feel the creative juices ooze through your fingertips!
Oh and of course Simon is a cat....though you need the bottle of vodka on the side ;o)

I had to laugh...I go to the gym at like 9:30 ish and it is pretty much filled with older folks. Well, now that the colleges are out, I do see some younger people. But yeah....I feel pretty awful when I get on a machine after someone twice my age and they are doing double the weight that I do!!
I have been taking my Sony reader to the gym and I read while I'm on the elliptical or cross ramp or whatever cardio machine I have chosen for the day! Works great!
I'm always thinking about writing when I'm at my "real" job but I always get lazy as soon as I'm home. Good thing you're not like me. :P
