Did you read?

A quick personal note: I got into nursing school! It finally feels like our life, which has been stuck in neutral since I graduated college and we got married, is getting back on track. So now we're talking about other major changes that might come our way, including *groan* moving...

***

Does anybody watch Portlandia? Unfortunately, I don't get IFC, but I've watched all the clips I can get my hot little hands on. I've never been to Portland, but I know the stereotypes well, and I grew up in my own little free-spirit town with plenty of people like they poke fun at on the show.

I'm always amazed by comedy writers. I can be funny in the moment, but planned humor? Not my thing. I especially love humor that pokes fun at things (which would explain why I almost choked to death laughing when I read this book. It's my opinion that most people in general take themselves too seriously, so it's always a joy to see that mocked (in good humor).

Writers are no different--maybe even worse than some others. There's such pressure to be on top of the publishing game, reading all the new releases, reading all the classics, reading all the craft books, reading the agent blogs, the publishing blogs, the Writer's Digest, The New Yorker and on and on and on...

So take a deep breath for just a moment and watch this. Then feel better.

Moving AGAIN? Didn't you just move like last year? Cray cray.
ANd yeah, i think most people consider me funny in person, but i have absolutely no skillz when it comes to the comedy writing.
I'd settle just to be able to write funny on my blog

LMAO! I love it! That's so true but I get it mostly for movies and tv shows. People here at work are always asking me if I've watched certain reality shows and no matter how many times I say I don't have cable, people never remember. Ahhh!

Congrats on nursing school!! I can't even think about going back to school until Sam gets done with school. One person at a time.

And moving again?! Good luck!

Hurray on getting accepted, Summer! I'm so happy for you. This clip is hilarious. I grew up in Portland, and I think Portlandia gives us natives more credit for being quirky than we actually deserve. Comedy is a science, that's for sure. Timing, irony, wit. A good joke isn't usually as spontaneous as it sounds. Thanks for the encouragement to chill out. I'm going to take it easy, yo.

Congrats on Nursing School! That's A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!!! You must be totally psyched!

Loved the clip. There are honestly times when I just feel like locking myself away in a room somewhere and just writing--to try to forget the need to keep up. But the feeling passes after about 1.5 seconds and I get on with life!

:D

Congrats on nursing school! For my day job I work at a hospital in a department that supports nursing and I in turn support the nurses who supporting nursing. I am constantly inspired and in awe of the talent, kindness, and joy that the nurses I work with bring every day. We are a crazy department that takes on all the big nursing projects that don't fit anywhere else so I get to work with nurses from all areas and I think, second only to other YA writers, nurses are the coolest people in the whole wide world. I wish you the best of luck!!
