Snowmageddon

If you've watched the news/weather at all, you probably have heard that a big winter storm was getting ready to pummel the South.

Well, it did.

As I'm writing this post, there's probably eight or so inches on the ground, and it's coming down steadily. Tonight they're forecasting freezing rain to top it off, so needless to say, I don't think any of us are going to be moving any time soon.

For my northern readers, this is no big deal. But I haven't seen more than one or two inches since 1993, when the Storm of the Century gave us 3 feet and completely shut down the state. I was seven, but I remember we didn't have any power, and we had to cook dinner over a fondue pot burner.

But today we've got power, video games, food in the fridge, and no class or work for Evan. The view outside is simply beautiful, and the kittens are hilarious as they rush from window to window, meowing and chirping, and generally trying to figure out WTF happened outside.

Happy Snow Day!

Or Monday, for you unlucky ones.

Lovely pictures! It's so funny, I live in Ohio, but we only got a couple of inches over the weekend - nothing like what the South got! It seems kind of backwards, but I'm glad we didn't get the amount you guys got! Enjoy your snow day! :)

Wow! I got the Blizzard of '78 when I was 10, which means I haven't enough fingers and toes to figure out how long ago that was... ;-)) And freezing rain on top--sounds like a Midwest storm that got off on the wrong exit and pounded you guys instead! Stay warm and stay safe--and stay off those roads!
Also, what Jessica said--lovely pictures! My kids are so jealous (Yokohama *never* gets more than a dusting of snow, if that:-((

We've got a couple inches here, but it's supposed to turn to freezing rain later. Means no work tomorrow!

Where I come from, snow is no big deal but I can imagine what it must be like in your region! :) It's pretty to look at but it can get annoying after a while. Stay safe and warm!

Good luck! Since I live in Minnesnowta, we have no real problem with snow. We did have a record breaking blizzard last month though but since like half of our state budget goes into snowplows and sand, we still had to go to work. I kind of envy those unprepared because there are no weather conditions ever preventing me from work. Sigh.

Ooo...now that is some snow! I hope your power is back on soon.

I went to college in southwestern Ohio with a bunch of kids from Cleveland. They mocked us for panicking when it snows, but those guys didn't have the hills we have down here. We hold our chins up and proudly cancel school every chance we get. And I think that the colder, snowier areas don't get as much ice with the snow, so the texture is probably different.

That's my theory, anyway. Going to go stock up on milk and bread, we have a couple of inches coming tonight...

It's beautiful you lucky, lucky girl! We got a dusting of snow but not enough for a snow day. It's supposed to keep going all day so my fingers are crossed.

Wow! Great photos! London is kinda like that with snow, too - a little bit and we all go mental! Enjoy it while it lasts.

Ah! Your cats chirp too. Strange noise for a cat really, but ours do it as well.

Have that fondue burner ready just in case! Stay warm.

It snowed in Dallas yesterday, but we didn't get enough for a snow day. :(

LOL! It never ceases to amuse us Buffalonians when the south gets hit and they have no clue how to deal with the snow! Have fun!! Hope you dig out!

For some reason I get immense pleasure seeing 8 inches of snow there when there is none on the ground here in Chicago.

Great photos! Hope you are doing ok. All our snow has gone for now, replaced by lashing rain and wind and the cats are still bonkers!

There is a blog award for you over at mine...

Being the central part of the east coast that got slammed last year by back to back massive snowstorms, I can appreciate how beautiful it looks now...and how terribly it's going to suck when you have to finally dig out!

Good luck. :D

You know, living in Canada you'd think I'd get a lot of snow days but we've had very little snow so far. :-(

Enjoy your snow day!

Beautiful. We are getting around five inches right now so I know the feeling. I wish I were home to enjoy it from the inside instead of driving around in it though. :)

Wow, Snowmageddon indeed! Beautiful photos though; I'm kind of missing the snow we had here :P

I'm one of the ones that, despite the snow and closings of all the local schools, it was just Monday. Then it was just Tuesday. And now the snow is just about gone, the schools are open, and its just Wednesday.

Oh for the time when Snow Days actually meant something.

Happy Hump Day!

Wow, Summer. It looks so pretty, but also cold. My suggestion is to keep a sweater and a hot drink handy at all times. I feel like I live in an igloo, and I want the white stuff to go away now. Spring isn't that far off, is it? (The answer I'm looking for is "No.")
