A mini-vacation, but a holiday all the same. It'll be our first little trip together since June of last year, when we went to St. Augustine for a whirlwind 2 nights.
This year we're taking the weekend in North Carolina. So far our itinerary includes:
Friday
- Leave Georgia at ass-crack of dawn
- Drive through Spartanburg to Charlotte
- Go here:
Where we'll enjoy a hard day of white water kayacking, zip-lines, rock walls, and more. We're really looking forward to it!
Saturday
Attend the Carolina Renaissance Festival!
This is the whole reason we're going this weekend--it's their Sci-Fi/Fantasy Literary Weekend. Only one author that I'm familiar with: Michael Stackpole. But I have a lot of hopes for it! It's been at least 12 years since I've been to a RenFest, and then it was in the middle of Georgia summer. I think fall is much more suitable for faires, don't you?
Here's Where You Come In
Evan and I are going to be spending Saturday night and Sunday in Charlotte, but we don't know what else to do! If anyone's familiar with the Charlotte area, we'd be greatly obliged for suggestions! Preferably nothing too expensive, because as always, we're traveling on a budget (sigh).

Have a great time! Sorry I'm not at that festival this weekend - I'm at one up north.
Have a great time!
Depending on how much you like being scared, there's Scarowinds at Carowinds amusement park that weekend. You can check it out online to see if you're interested.
There's also the Discovery Place, if you like Science museums, in uptown Charlotte.
Dracula is playing at NC Dance theater...don't know if you like ballet.
Have fun. :)
I have no idea - but I hope you have a great time!! :)
Well, ain't that a hoot! I'll be in NC this weekend too but I'm going to the Oyster Festival. Let's hope we both have a great time :)

A few of my friends went there a while ago and I believe they said downtown was a lot of fun? Just to walk around and try the restaurants? I'm so jealous! HAVE FUN!
Sounds like a fantastic trip! Have a great time - wish I could help out with Charlotte but I know nothing about the city!
We aren't going to the RenFest until the end of the month....but: Scarowinds, Discovery Place-both around Charlotte. Then, not to far away is Asheboro Zoo, one of the largest of its kind in the world. There are corn mazes all around the area....
I've only rafted on the Nantahala and I would love to visit the Whitewater Center. I have friends who say it's fantastic.
Have fun and be safe! And, welcome to my neck of the woods!
If you ask me, the ass-crack is definitely the best part of the dawn. :D
Sorry, I don't know a thing about Charlotte, but I hope you guys have a great time--and of course we want pictures!
