Guess That Character Blogfest

It's that time! My lovely friend Jen, at unedited, is hosting her first blogfest today (and tomorrow).

So how does it go? Easy:

I post a short character-driven snippet. You get a feel for them, maybe a mental picture, and leave a guess for how they look in your head.

Tomorrow, I post a picture of my imagining of the character.

Fun, right? Let's go.

*************

“Slow down,” I said, blocking another branch from whipping into my eyes. Linden squeezed my hand, our sweat-slicked palms sliding against each other.
“Want me to carry you?” he asked, holding the Coleman lantern just below my face.
     “No, I—put me down!”
The world spun as my feet left the ground. I threw my arms around his neck to anchor myself. His sweat-dampened skin still managed to smell delicious, to remind me of many nights of soaked sheets and basic human instinct.
He pulled me closer to his chest, then kissed my shoulder. “Now you can keep up with me.”
A few more minutes in the woods, and we emerged at a clearing. It’d been years since I’d visited this spot, since I’d lain on the mossy earth and looked up at the limitless mountain sky while the river babbled secrets.
The swimming hole seemed a bit smaller and the trees blocked even more of the night sky, but the holy quality of the air remained the same.
Linden set me down gently, keeping one of his arms wrapped around my waist. I patted my pocket and felt the crunch of paper. All there.
Holding up the lamp so it cast the largest possible pool of light, Linden walked across the mossy ground and squatted on one of the naturally eroded granite slabs that lined the river. Even with the lantern, the water glinted black. Immutable.
He balanced the lantern on the uneven stone and looked back at me over his shoulder. The shadows obscured the lower half of his face, but illuminated his eyes.
     “Wanna swim?” he said.

************

I know it's not much, but it's about the only one without some hint!

What does Linden look like?

So lemme know what you think, and don't forget to check out the other entries!

I like this! :) You know I do because you are the greatest.
Linden--a body I would want to touch. Dark hair and light eyes (blue, maybe?)
All I know is-- he seems yummy to me. :)

I'm for light brown hair and green eyes. *fingers crossed*

Great snippet!!! I'm going to repeat myself... I was telling Christine and Crystal I miss reading all your work. You guys are so awesome!!! I need to find time but my life is like an uncontrollable monster!

Linden = Hot... I mean what else could you possibly need? (PS Christine had me bursting with laughter - a body I want to touch!)

My Guess - A dark mess of hair, scruff on his face (only the sexy kind - is there another kind?), blue eyes, sexily built (yeah I just created that).

I can't wait to see the sex-on-a-stick you put on this blog tomorrow ;)

LINDEN!!! Why do you torture me so Summer! i am getting seriously attached to him :)

LOVE THIS!!! You're so awesome. I'm wondering where you've fit this scene in, maybe it's new. hmmmmm. . . must think about it.

I picture Linden as tall, muscular (in the perfect sculpted kind of way) with black hair and blue eyes.

I can't wait to see what he looks like!

It's me back in 1984, with Lizzy from Spud-U-Like (obviously).

Seriously: put me in mind of a David Tennant alike.

Oooh! Linden lifted your MC without any problems so I'm thinking he is a very physically fit guy. I'm guessing he is pretty gorgeous too, sexy and protective. I'm looking at eyes with a faraway look about them. :-)

take care

Tall, strong, dark hair, grazing his collar, green eyes, long, thick lashes. An adventurer. Maybe a bit of a swagger.

Enjoyed this!

Hmmm, she's about 5'4" (petite), she has brown hair with caramel highlights, green eyes, tiny up-turned nose and the perfect pouty lips.

I pretty much pictured Taylor Lautner! Except maybe this fellow doesn't have a waxed chest.

Summer Ross said...

soft short brown hair, light blue eyes. Broad shoulders, tall but not lanky. athletic

Very pretty scene! I love your descriptions :)

Hmm. I'd say this woman is in her early to mid twenties, with red hair. Hazel or green eyes. She's slender and athletic, and pretty petite.

Steph Sinkhorn said...

OH, and Linden! He's a big guy, tall and built. It was so easy for him to pick up the narrator and carry her around. Dark hair that maybe falls in his eyes. Tan.

I love all these guesses! Thanks, guy!

@Christine: You crack my shit up. That's a body I'd like to touch too!! LOL.

@Gary: I wasn't familiar with David Tennant, but I Googled him! Great character face. I will be saving that one for the future... (and hilarious answer, btw)

@Genie: Lol, no waxed chest here...

I'm thinking Linden's tall and muscular. He's got wavy brown hair, kind of long, and hazel eyes. Definitely a looker. :)

Oooh, Linden... I like him! I'd say dark hair that could do with a cut. Attractive face, but maybe with something of a square jaw and thick eyebrows. Bit of stubble perhaps. Deep voice. Tall and strong. Tanned skin. Hunky. Mmmm...

God Summer, your talent shines through every line of this excerpt. I didn't want the scene to end!

Let's see...Linden. I picture him muscular, someone who works out regularly...but never does any cardio. He keeps his brown hair clipped short on the sides, but he doesn't have a military look, or anything. His skin is bronzed, which makes his green eyes sparkle. And he has a southern drawl. (Okay, I'm cheating because I'm picturing the North GA mountains, esp. with the reference to granite slabs :D)

Can't wait until tomorrow's reveal!

Hi,

Beautifully descriptive snippet.

Guessing blue/grey-eyed, medium brown hair, designer stubble, he's hunky build not over-muscled, about 5' 11" hence long distance weight-carrier(hefty backpack), well-muscled legs, and quirky smile, assertive, demanding, good leadership material.

Well, he's six-footish, dark hair, blue eyes with a nurturing side. Possibly a romantic. He's strong and athletic since he picks her up because she can't keep up with him.

Can't wait to see if I was close. :D

I see them both as later teens 17-19. I see Linden as muscular and with short brown hair and brown eyes. He's tall and has an angular look to his face. Great little excerpt, definitely made me want to see more!

Lindsay (a.k.a Isabella) said...

Ooh Linden...he's tall, with a muscular build. I see him as having dirty blonde hair and huge brown eyes. He's cute, but rugged.

Now I just want to read more. :)

Also, I think he has pale grey eyes.

Dark, messy hair, blue eyes, a little scruff on the face, strong and lean.

Great scene. Love the name Linden. :)

Great piece!

Hmm... athletic body, shorter than average, soft brown wavy hair - shouler length :)

Mmm Linden...tall, muscular and very fit! Okay now for details - dark blonde messy hair with amazing steel blue eyes and a cheeky smile.

Lovely snippet!! I enjoyed reading this! ;))

Oh, wow--I already like Linden. I see him as tall, with sandy blonde hair and a quick smile. He's got a lot of lean muscle and sparkling hazel eyes. Can't wait for the reveal!

Kristin Rae said...

ooo this is yummy!

Linden... tall and muscular, maybe a scar across an eyebrow - hair a light shade of brown turning darker as he ages. Chocolate brown eyes that sparkle and smolder at the same time.

Strong, capable hands and body. Blue eyes and black hair down the length of his neck. Tall and controlled. :)

He looks like somebody I'd want to go moonlight swimming with. ;)

I'm guessing dark hair, muscular since he's carrying her around so easily, and very rugged. Hubba hubba.
